I'm from CA, so I never really had to deal with being very cold. Cotton socks were the only socks I knew, and they were always fine. When I moved to Jersey a few years ago however, I noticed something different It's COLD in the winter. My feet were always the first to get cold whether inside or out. I finally read up on clothing/fabrics/layering and realized that cotton was not the best thing to wear as a base layer for keeping warm.
After searching for various options, I found these, which are great. They are long and keep my feet much warmer.

NOT BAD, BUT LARGE GOES ALL THE WAY UP OVER YOUR KNEE. IM NEVER GOING TO WEAR THEM BUT IF YOUR THE TYPE THAT WEARS THERE SOCKS UP OVER YOUR KNEE. THESE ARE FOR YOU.
