The best kind of running shorts are the kind you don't even notice you're wearing, and these definitely met those specifications for me. They are made of a very thin, comfortable material. It has a little more stretch than I expected it would. The inner shorts are very stretchy, which I did expect, but the outer shorts have a bit of stretch to them too, almost like swimsuit material. Wasn't sure how I felt about that at first since my other running shorts don't have much "give" to them, but after a nice long run in the rain in them, I am very impressed with how comfortable these shorts are and how well they wick moisture away. Even though I was soaked, the shorts never got soggy or heavy but kept my lower half feeling nice and dry all seven miles.
A bit more about the shorts: they have a nice little zippered pocket in the back about the right size for a key or small MP3 player. I wear a running belt that I usually keep my "accessories" in, so I can't attest to the quality of the pocket, but it looks sturdy enough. There is also a drawstring on the inside of the shorts if the waistband isn't tight enough for you not the kind with two loose ends, but rather a continuous loop so you can't lose your drawstring inside the waistband. Be careful if you tie a knot in it, because it's make of a very thin, stretchy material that is very hard to unknot if you decide you don't like where you've knotted it. I've found that if you make two "bunny ears" and do a single square knot with the loop, like the first knot in tying your shoes, it holds the shorts in place and is easy to undo.
I really like the inner compression shorts because you don't have to worry about getting a wedgie when you're running like you sometimes do with the built-in panties that a lot of running shorts come with.
In case it helps someone in picking the correct size, I am 5'4", 120 lb with hips a little on the bigger size compared to the rest of my body. I ordered the small, and they are plenty roomy. One problem I've had with running shorts in the past is chafing on my inner thighs after a long run. These did not chafe at all!
It's always a bit scary ordering clothes online without having a chance to try them on, but I'm very glad I took the chance with these shorts. They are an excellent buy for twelve bucks and fantastic for everyday running. I would definitely buy again and recommend them to any runner looking for an inexpensive, comfortable pair of shorts.

Love these shorts. Got my first pair at a running store for FULL PRICE! Got two here at Amazon for less than I paid for one. Love the liner, keeps everything tight. Medium fit me true to size, very comfortable.
