I purchased this short in two versions of black, one with white piping, the latter being a bit more attractive. The short is styled as a running short but a little longer than the usual 3" style, something I was looking for since I am an older competitive runner. I like that it does not flare out at the sides, staying close to the thigh although not feeling tight. It does not have a split leg but does have an inner liner and deep side pockets, one of which has a long "in case of emergency" streamer sewn in on which you can write contact information, a very nice feature. These shorts are less useful in the gym, however. A credit card I had tucked in the pocket fell out during a knee raise exercise and the longer length inhibited smooth elevation of my knees into a 90 degree position. So it is an excellent short for running/jogging purposes. I find compression shorts more suitable for gym workouts.

Im an athletic bigger girl. Sz 14-16 and these fit very nice. not tight in places and the white seam piping looks good as it cuts towards the rear and not straight up the leg. Length is great, like I said, I am a bigger girl, I do not want short shorts for working out or leisure and these are perfect for both. Will buy again.

The length is great, not to short for us older athletes, and the legs are the perfect width, not too tight yet not at all baggy. They sit just barely below the waist and have deep pockets to carry essentials when walking and running.

I've had these for a few weeks, and mostly I really like them. The length is great, they don't ride up too much during my workouts, easy to take care of, don't wrinkle, look great. The pockets are AMAZING. I keep my iPod and pedometer in them. They rock.

Two cons: They don't run true to size. I'm somewhere between a women's 16/18, so I ordered a XXL. They're quite big in the waist, but sit fairly well in the hips. If you're on the smaller end of a size, order down. I also just finished sewing up about an inch-long rip on the seam I found before my workout today. It was on the outside, so there's no real friction there, so I'm not sure why they ripped so easily.

Overall they're really great for the price, and I love wearing them. I'll consider more like them if I find them.
