My Marmot needs Viagra.

I love marmot gear, but sometimes you've gotta face it.

I moved to the precip hat (full brim version) from a fabric one because I wanted the rain protection, and I got it. What I didn't get was a hat that could withstand wind. any wind. at all.

The brim of the hat has nothing to either weigh it down or stiffen it, so when the wind blows your sun/rain protection disappearsthe brim folds back against your head and no longer offers protection. I've resorted to buying a lightweight chain from the hardware store and putting inside the brim all the way around. It adds weight and is annoying to cut a hole in a brand new hat, but I couldn't find any other way to keep it up..

I was looking for a baseball-style cap for paddling in inclement weather, and this one perfectly fits the bill. Breathable and waterproof, completely adjustable with a velcro tab in the back, it is light weight and very comfortable. The green color is also attractive and subtle. It is the best designed hat of this kind I have ever bought. It's definitely getting some heavy rotation, even in nice weather and about town. Love it.

I've worn Marmot outerwear for years, and I've always been happy with them. I like the quality materials, smart, unfussy design and the performance. The North Face is a great company and I'd never knock their stuff, but I don't want to have the same look as some high school kid who's never been on the north face of anything except maybe the mall.

The Rubicon jacket is an example: well-made, fits great (cut a little large for layering)and it's Gore-Tex Extreme Wet Weather rated.

I like the smart design features: zip-away hood and snow-skirt ('cause you don't need a snow-skirt unless you're in snow)and a nice little pocket near the left cuff (for lip balm, sunscreen, etc). Pockets are placed so I can use them when wearing a pack.

I got it to use in heavy rain and for skiing. So far, perfect! My only nitpick is that the pockets are lined with microfiber, which is easy on the hands, but I'd prefer the old mesh so I can vent the jacket without using the PitZips.

POSTSCRIPT 5 MONTHS LATER: Just sat for two hours in the rain with this jacket and was perfectly dry.
