I came to Amazon looking for a classic T-shirt:

Plain front

Double-stitched seams

Durable cotton / poly blend (less wrinkling, less shrinkage, breathes better than plain cotton)

Color fast (doesn't bleach from sweat or stains or washing)

Loose fit

Good quality control

These Gildan tees fit the bill. They wash well and fit comfortably. XL is standard XL. The poly / cotton blend is good for hot and cold weather. I roll them up for hiking in the humid tropics. You can iron them on low heat, but they don't really need it.

I had to laugh at the other review where these shirts are called "best on the planet." How's that for an endorsement! They are great, much better than the stuff I see at local department stores. It's a mystery to me why you have to go online to get these great shirts, but I'll keep doing it.

Addendum: The other reviewer commented on the nice, tight neck. I agree. There is a good elastic quality to the ribbing in the neck, so the shirt keeps its shape and doesn't sag on a hanger.

Super comfortable, and really nice feeling material. Definitely a great winter undershirt. Amazon is a real stickler about word count, what a shame. Some products don't need much more than a sentence or two. It's not like this shirt is some complicated thing. It's something to put on your back. It does it very well.
