Been doing martial arts for two years now. Repeat rib injuries to the cartilage between them; 6 months a pop of time off from training sucks. This is the solution until I can get those areas a little tougher.So far so good. No further injuries to those pesky ribs. I don't think the material will give your training partner a rash; just the same I wear a shirt over it to be safe.
I have a lot of Shock Doctor gear, I like them.
If you're having the same problem with repeat injuries to your ribs, heres a peice of advice: wait until they're healed COMPLETELY before returning. This can take up to 6 months or more (not a lot of circulation, the area is always moving from breathing, etc). Heat helps after a couple weeks or so, and consider getting something like this for future injuries. Don't try to superman it and work through the pain. You're only prolonging your recovery time.
