The front of my cycling shoes is mostly light mesh so they provide very little warmth. When the temp goes below 50 my toes get very cold. Since buying these that has been much less of an issue. In addition to providing wind protection they are also fairly water resistant. They fit snugly and have a precut hole that will accommodate either mountain or road cleats. As for sizing, I wear a size 45.5 mountain bike shoe (approx size 10 in US sizing) and the L/XL fits nicely. You could probably fit them on a slightly larger shoe but if you have very big feet I don't think they will work for you.
