I'm a law enforcement officer who works primarily in plain clothes. I purchased this jacket to use on the job. My observations:

1) The jacket itself is attractive and warm. It's a near perfect windbreaker... if it wasn't for the flaws below, I'd give it a 5 of 5.

2) (Minor quibble): There's an elastic cinch cord that runs around the base of the jacket, so you can cinch the jacket in to be more snug around the waist. Unfortunately, the cord is extremely flimsy: mine caught a key chain in my pocket on the first or second wear, and the cord snapped. So now the jacket is too billowy around the base. It's still functional, but it looks bad.

3) (Major flaw): The main draw (to me) for this jacket is the 2 front/1 rear pull-out identifier panels. Blank panels are included. The problem is that 5.11 doesn't support this jacket by offering pre-embroidered panels or blank replacement panels. 5.11 does offer blank pull out panels for their other jackets, but those don't fit this product. An e-mail to the company confirmed this; they said they'd merely "look into" offering replacement panels in the future. This is a problem. You can have the blank panels embroidered, but if the embroidery machine eats your panels, or if you later change departments, you're out of luck. Guess you need to buy a new jacket if you want new panels. It's not an insurmountable issue (you can always make your own panels with some cloth and velcro), but it would be nice if 5.11 supported their own product a little better. I haven't been able to find commercially made panels anywhere.

This jacket is very comfortable, the warmth is more for a spring/summer night. It's very grey-man style, no unwanted attention from any kind of flare or logos. The holster material is nice and smooth, so there's no snag on the way out. Putting the weapon in the holster can be a pain, but using both hands fixes that. The holster is sized for compact/sub-compact guns, full size guys beware. My only serious complaint about my jacket is the sewn in mag pocket is on the same side as the holster, so if you have to reload in a bind you're spending a few more seconds with the mag's awkward placement.

All things considered it is good, I wouldn't mess around with the collar too much or it might lose it's shape. I like the light feel.
