I've used Icebreaker's light weight sock and found it to be great also. This is a slightly heavier version that is nicely padded.

Okay, so I get a bit emotional over socks. Years ago a sales person talked me into my first pair of Merino wool socks. I was shocked at the expense and that you would wear wool in the summer. Now it's all I will wear. The Icebreaker socks are my favorite for road bike riding. I confess that I wear them to the office as well. The graphics and colors are conservative so I can get away with this. Plus it reminds me that I would rather be riding. They have the perfect thickness/weight (not too much or too little). Additionally I like socks that are between the high dress socks and the micro or really short socks. These "Mini" size are in the middle. I now own three pair. My favorites are the navy blue but they are not currently available. If you are reading this Icebreaker marketing person I'll buy three pairs of navy blue socks when they are available again. I highly recommend these socks.

Good ankle support, mesh top, comfortable bottom material. My favorite pair for basketball. I'll probably order another pair when this one wears out.

i wear these socks in the fall and winter in minnesota they provide the necessary warmth and comfort i need to make through the cold mornings on my bicycle. merino wool has many benefits, the odor thing is one i do not wish to test unless necessary, so i cannot speak to that, but they are very comfortable and soft even after many washes.
