I've been looking for a good lightweight jacket for the transition weather of spring and fall. The traditional "windbreaker" always comes to mind, but at the same time I wanted a little more substance to ward off the chilly air or a cold breeze. I like 5.11 products, and have faith in their construction, so I took a chance on this jacket. And I love it.It is available in several colors, but I chose black. The jacket is extremely lightweight. The exterior shell and inner fleece lining are both polyester, and the inner sleeve linings are nylon. The sleeves are gathered with elastic to give you a good seal against weather and water at the wrist. The color can be turned down or worn up, providing a bit more coverage at the neck. 5.11 claims it can "fold into its own pocket". I'm not sure what that means exactly, but I actually tried it and you sort-of can do it. Suffice to say that it can fold, wad, crumple, or squish down very small for easy packing and fitting anywhere.
In no particular order, here are the things I like most:
Super comfortable. The lightweight and soft material is nearly like wearing to jacket at all.
Good weather protection. Great for a light spring or fall shower, a chilly breeze, or a crisp cold morning.
Nice pockets! Two exterior pockets are roomy, fleece lined against the outer surface, and zip closed. There is one large inner pocket that closes with velcro. And a hidden pocket at the chest that opens along the zipper. Great storage options for such a light jacket.
Fleece lining is very nice extra warmth without being heavy or hot. The sleeves are nylon lined, not fleece so your long sleeve shirt won't bind as you put it on.
Exterior shell is very smooth. It resists pet hair, dirt and dust, and dries quickly when wet. It is also very nice looking with a good sheen finish.
In the $50 range, this is a great lightweight jacket. Think of if as a windbreaker with warmth, lots of useful pockets, and tasteful style... and there you have it.
I am 5'7", 150 lbs, and the medium fits me just right, even over a sweatshirt.
