We get awfully hot summers and pretty cold winters. Layering is important and this jacket is a great all rounder thanks to the shorter arms. Nothing is worse than the extra heat kept in courtesy of full length arms when running in a spring/summer storm.
In humid conditions (late spring/summer) you can wear a singlet under it. In colder weather you can wear the arm warmers. It cuts out all wind and rain and is the thinnest example of this material I have seen. It is so light that I can fit it along with a snake bite bandage and battery for my headlamp in the tiny rear carrying space of a camelbak marathoner.
Construction is if the highest order with taped seams all laying down very flat. The intersection of all taped seams is reinforced and the attention to detail in producing an ultra light, high quality garment is evident every where you look.
The hood is permanently attached unlike the NETTI jacket (entrant material) this replaces; which to me is a positive as this will mostly be used when raining. Drawstrings allow you to cinch it down and trap body heat if running in very cold conditions.
I am not into how gear looks but this jacket (I have the red) looks fabulous. Be wary though it is a tighter fit than the size chart would indicate. A 180 cms and 76 kgs I am a medium in just about everything. I ordered large to be safe and it is a snug fit.
Super impressed with this jacket and will purchase more Gore gear in the years to come.
Forgot to mention that the material is very quiet! While being 'noisy' is not a deal breaker when it comes to rain jackets, having something you don't notice makes a difference to the enjoyment factor and tbh when spending this much you want to get as much bang for buck as you can.
