This cap's functionality is perfect. I just did a triathalon in 55 degree water. This cap helped considerably; it covered my ears, kept me warm, stayed in place, and was comfortable.

The reason for three stars...

With my race only days away, I was so excited to get my package. I carefully opened the package (as I know neoprene does not like scissors). I pulled out the plastic bag that was protecting my new weapon against the cold water, and opened it to be met with the wetsuit smell....mmmm. I pulled out the cap which comes folded and enclosed in a plastic bag. Then I gingerly attempted to unfold the cap. NO LUCK. Next I attempted to pull the cap apart. NO LUCK. Finally I had to rip, yes rip, the cap apart, because it had been melted together. This pulled off the shiny coating on the parts that were stuck together and gave my cap a well worn or abused look. I would have sent it back, alas my race was just days away and I didn't want to risk not having one. Despite the coating missing from a significant portion of the cap, it kept me warm-which was the purpose to begin with.

Pros: It works.

Cons: A bit tight, but it expands a bit in the water.

As a point of reference, I wear a medium bike helmet. The cap took a swim or two of breaking in to be comfortable, but it worked well. Wore it for IMCDA and I was very glad I had it.

I wish the chin strap would not have been so tight. I tried to stretch it out by putting it around a youth soccer ball, but it barely had any effect. I decided breathing was more important, so I returned this insulated cap and doubled-up on standard swim caps instead.

My hat size is 7 1/2 (about 23.5 inches in diameter), which is typically Large but not Extra Large. If you have a smaller head, I think this cap would probably work well for you. Otherwise, the chin strap will probably be too tight.
