Having used several Australian merino wool thermals (from Snowgum and Kathmandu), I was interested to see the hype about the IceBreakers my friend was raving on about. He told of a story of a man who spend a month hiking Mount Everest wearing IceBreakers and not only did it keep him warm, his thermals didnt even smell after a month of using them. I was sold.

I am a size 32 pant, usually a Medium shirt size guy. Using the website sizing chart, I originally ordered a Medium but in reality it was loose on the skin, I had to return it for a Small, and it was a perfect snug fit on the skin. So definately go one size down when ordering.

My first impression was that it was extremely light and a little thin, but you can feel that that the material being New Zealand merino wool, it was very warm.

I used the bottoms as my only underlayer on my first day in Whistler, and I was comfortable the entire time!

and it doesnt even smell after a 3 day back to back session!

I used the Tech Top with one more layer (long sleeve Burton shirt) and then my Snowboard jacket and it was getting warm at times.

I found it works best when it is the only layer touching the skin.

Honestly, Im thinking about throwing away all my thermals and just keeping one pair of IceBreaker 260's.

Hope this review helps!

This is my favorite shirt hands down.

It can be worn by itself or as a layering garment. The thumb holes come in handy when layering as it wont bunch up under another shirt or jacket. I've worn this for weeks straight without washing (scary I know) and it never held a scent nor felt worn out. Its made or very comfortable wool.

I purchased my first icebreaker 2 years ago and its still kicking even after hundreds of wears, in the woods, at the office, and around the house.

I highly recommend it!

I should have checked the reviews before I bought this sweater. It is hard to do that when you have several models of Icebreaker Bodyfit and they all fit perfectly. I am medium size. It looks like they either retooled their factory or moved to "vanity sizing". This medium size "bodyfit" is fit only if you undergo one month of McDonald's therapy. Problem is that if you order a smaller size you take the hit in the length of the sleeves and sweater. It is sad to see a great clothier falling victim to our getting bigger and bigger.

OK, first of all, I absolutely hate the cold, any type of cold weather I try to avoid.

Secondly, I've never gone skiing because of point one above.

So finally decided to try skiing and spent over a month researching all the gear I needed to buy, number 1 priority being stay warm.

All I can say is these are amazing. They keep you warm, comfortable and dry. The perfect base layer!

I think they run a size too big, I ordered a large but it was too loose.

First let me say that I am a die hard devotee of Icebreaker's line of wool garments. I find them far preferable to the typical poly blends and other high tech fabrics utilized in other companies' base layers (like Patagonia, for instance). Icebreaker's stuff is extremely warm and I say that as someone who is always cold. There is no itchiness and they are incredible at keeping body odor at bay. I have warn mine sometimes for three or four days in a row with no detectable odor something I have not been able to match with the synthetics--nor do I even try anymore. I think this is a very significant feature if you, or tose around you are sensitive.

If I have a complaint it's a small one and it only pertains to my 260 "1/2 zip" not my other Icebreaker pieces. For some reason the weave used on my 260 is an absolute magnet for dog hair, lint and other stuff floating about in the air that it comes into contact with. I've subtracted one star for that while I would rank my others, especially the lightweight 200, five stars. Yes they are fairly expensive, but not substantially higher than other similar clothing. I have noticed that my most recent pair of baselayers--although still designed and based in New Zealand--are now manufactured elsewhere, which is an all-to-familiar trend. I hope this shift doesn't mean lesser quality in construction. So far, so good.
