I was looking for a wind-proof hat for those winter days when walking or waiting for the bus can get painfully cold. I wanted something I could keep in my bag all the time "just in case."This Peruvian hat was well reviewed and it lives up to those other reviews. Very comfortable and toasty. Ears and neck are covered. Keeps the chilly wind out.
Bonuses for my purpose: Rolls up into a tiny little package I keep tucked in the corner of my bag. Very lightweight.
Combine it with Columbia Sportswear Bugascarf and you're ready for those sub-zero days.

This hat is very warm, yet is made of a very lightweight material, and can be easily folded to fit into a coat pocket.Honest reviews on Outdoor Research Peruvian Hat
I purchased this hat for my husband, who's head circumference is larger than "average". The large fits perfectly and does not look silly on him. The fabric is incredibly warm, yet very lightweight & definitely windproof.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Outdoor Research Peruvian Hat
After a couple weeks of use, I'm giving the OR Peruvian a thumbs up.Using a quick example, the Windstop worked great yesterday on a three-hour backcountry ski jaunt up the hills. The wind pounded in the tree clearings and I felt nothing but warmth. Even with heavy perspiration in parts of the trek, it seemed to breathe well also. Naturally, it is can bit hard to hear your buddies and their chit chat with the ears covered, but that's getting picky.
The medium fit me well, but I would try and check sizing in person if you can as it is a trim fit unlike the knitted Peruvian caps you can grab. Sometimes I wear a nylon Nike DriFit running cap underneath and the OR cap fits comfortably but doesn't feel tight or too snug. The straps, I found to be superfluous.
A few people mentioned it looks goofy. I don't know, maybe it does. It doesn't scramble eggs or cook bacon either. I didn't pick up any girls out in the hills with this thing but it does protect my ears well. That's what I bought it for.
