These pants arrived in excellent time. They are too long (I'm 5 ft. 3 in.), but the extra material can be tucked into hiking boots. I live in an area overrun with deer and their ticks; so far, wearing these pants (and bug repellent socks) have kept ticks off me. The pants are washable.

I bought these pants for my work as landscape designer/gardener where ticks and mosquitoes are practically in a job description. I can't tell yet about how strong and long-lasting anti-bug treatment for this pants is, but the garment itself is very light and comfortable ideal for summer work outside. I have a feeling that sizing of Columbia clothing is a bit on smaller side (I've bought size 10 of those while I am currently wearing size 8 and even 6 from other companies), but if you ever had Columbia's pants, you would know your size.

As much as I could judge from Columbia's description of Bug Shield clothes, they use the same treatment as in Insect Shield, and the latter really works, at least against mosquitoes (hopefully, against ticks as well, but it's hard to tell if you doesn't get any of them because you're just lucky or because this treatment worked).

I will update this review after I get an idea about how well the bug protection of this pants works.

Great fabric. I wore these in the jungle when it was 108 degrees. Long pants were necessary, but so was a lightweight fabric. They dried quickly, looked good, fit well (although I could use a petite size so I wouldn't have to roll them up) and kept the bugs away as much as anything could be expected to. I bought a second pair because I liked them so much.

I like look of those pants+ I feel protected against bugs.I would recomand it to everybody who is traveling abroad with need of bug shield pants .Iwill recommend buy somewhat bigger size than you ususally wear.
