These are incredibly warm leggings that I got for when the temperature in my ancient house dips down into the 30's and I don't feel like running the heater.

They do the job, and I like having them calf-height.

The down side? Very, very expensive, and they seem to want to ride low on me (plumber's crack is a major concern even when standing up). Maybe they'll fit better as they stretch out a little. Also, I have sizeable calf muscles and nobody seems to design clothes with people who have calves in mind. That's more of an industry complaint however.

For high quality, comfortable, high-performance wool base layers, it's hard to go wrong with Icebreaker.

Quick caveat before I begin, this is a pre-cold weather review. I probably won't have a chance to wear these when it's actually cold for another month or two.

I've been buying some cold weather exercise and sporting gear recently and Amazon started recommending Icebreaker clothing items. After reading a few product descriptions I thought it sounded like they had some good products and so I searched on their brand name for other items. These tights/long underwear popped up in the product list and I was instantly intrigued by the idea of long underwear that wouldn't bunch up inside my heavy winter socks. Such a simple solution to the age old problem of winter socks and long underwear.

With a Minnesota winter along with cold weather sports and hunting on the way I decided to punch the button and give these a try. And, while it's still only September I have already received these and tried them on. My first impression on opening the box was that these are soft, probably the softest piece of clothing I've owned since I was a baby. Yup, that soft. When pulling them on the first time the cuffs were a bit snug and got hung up on my big calves, but with a little gentle persuasion they stretched out nicely and wound up sliding over my calves. This tells me that these will stretch out all over through wear, but on initial fitting they seem to fit pretty well. They hug my legs from calves up through the quads. The top wears like a nice pair of boxer briefs, they leave enough room for the boys without letting things swing all over.

The cuffs break right at the point where my winter wool socks pull up to. This is going to make getting dressed up warmly for the winter a lot more comfortable. No more piles of fabric right at my ankles cutting off circulation.

Icebreaker makes these tights in several different weights. I personally selected the 200 weight because I put out a lot of heat and knowing where and how I was planning to use these I didn't think the higher weight fabrics were going to be right for me. But, only use through the winter will tell.

I will say that these so far are very comfortable. I'm definitely looking forward to wearing them. If the winter proves that they work well I'll definitely be back for more Icebreaker products.

Really liked the 3/4 length. Kept me warm in cold temps, and dry in spring skiing conditions. They have a lower cut wasteline than some of the other merino wool base layers out there (Stoic Smartwool). I tried on Stoic and Helly Hansen base layers and did not like them. BF is perfect.

Best long underwear I ever purchased (and I've been skiing for 20 years). Better than regular wool and silk, and if you still use the acrylic type you'll throw that away with these.
