Can see how it would protect well! Daughter is an adult small but was very tight. Had to reorder in a Medium, which fit well and does not ride up. She is complaining of the inside material, which feels fine to me, but is itchy against her shin, so if very sensitive be aware.

We got these for our U13 girl soccer player since she can now perform slide tackles this fall. At first, they felt a little bulky to her under her main shorts, but she got used to them after a few practices. The sizing runs somewhere between accurate and a little tight. They are compression fit, so they should be snug, but she's thin-as-a-rail and the size Small still "squeezes" her a bit. If she actually had curves yet, she'd definitely need the next size up. The length is good and doesn't stick out the bottom of the shorts (which was a concern for her).

Based on past experience with McDavid hexpad gear, their tag says that you can dry them on "low", but I wouldn't. They should be line-dry / hang-dry ONLY. We've had two other hexpad items start to delaminate after repeated tumble drying. McDavid was great about replacing them under warranty without hesitation and we stopped tumble drying them. Haven't had a single problem since.

This stuff isn't cheap, but it's worth it for a competitive player who isn't afraid to get physical.

Purchased for my basketball playing daughter. It's more for peace of mind. Fit is fine and she hasn't mentioned anything about the stitching complaint some of the other reviewers have noted.

After only wearing the shorts one time they developed a tear on a seam where the padding is sewn in.
