This is an interesting running short that I'm now happy to have in my arsenal of running gear, especially when I have to do trail half marathons and need to bring some stuff with me but don't want to wear a belt with flasks and pouches for gels.

First off, the fit. I normally wear a Small, especially in Smartwool and Asics running shorts. This one seems to run a bit small and the liner brief seemed just a tad tight. So if you might be close to the upper end of the size/fit chart for Pearl Izumi, you might want to consider sizing up.

The feel of the shorts is nice. Because of the split leg, there's a wide range of freedom and motion while running. The shorts themselves are nice and light and breath well.

Now on to the pockets, which is the main reason I bought these. The back pocket is actually large enough to hold a Droid smartphone! It's plenty big and held my smartphone and keys with some more room to spare for a packet of GU or two. Though I did experience a bouncy motion the more I stuffed in there. But just running with my keys back there was fine with minimal bounce.

The side pockets are amazing! I stuck a 1.25 oz Gotoob bottle in there. I'll have to experiment with other gel flasks to see which brand fits well in there.

Even more surprising was that my iPhone 4S actually fit in that side pocket and stayed there during my run. There was a little bit of a bounce to the iPhone, probably because of the smooth sides, but it stayed in there and felt quiet secure. Part of the elastic mesh actually slid over part of the top of the iPhone and held it in place. I felt confident that it wouldn't come out of the pocket and because of the location and angle of the pocket, I would have surely felt it if the phone started to come lose.

Overall a nice pair of shorts and, for me, well worth the price. I might update this review in a few months to gauge the longevity of the shorts, but I suspect they'll last quite a while.
