I bought my first one (in white) on a ski trip about 10 years ago. Once I got to college I knew I wanted another one in black for walking back and forth to campus. Every year I buy a new one because I inevitably leave it on a bus, or under a desk... So here I am buying my... 5th turtle fur hat. It's so warm and I like that it goes with everything. OK, so it's not "stylish" but it's also not garish and out there with crazy knit patterns and pom-poms. I still haven't found a hat that will keep my head this warm. Love it.

I read a lot of reviews on a lot of different fleece hats before I finally settled on this one. But I won't lie: the fact that this hat costs three times as much as most of the discount store hats I've bought for years made me hesitant to pull the trigger on this purchase. But after I got over the sticker shock... I pressed the button and the hat was on the way.

Now that I've had the hat for over a month... I've really come to appreciate it. For everyday use in the 10° 40° F temperatures we've experienced here... it's kept my head warm and dry in wind, rain and snow. In addition... I've worn it on a couple of long hikes through fairly rugged terrain that resulted in ample perspiration. But despite the moisture... the hat remained warm. When I removed the hat to cool off for a few minutes the moisture got pretty cold... but after a minute or so on my head... it was back to keeping me warm again.

The fabric itself truly is dense enough to keep out most wind... and soft enough that my daughter swears it's made of "baby hide." This is the warmest, softest winter hat I've ever owned and I truly missed it the day I had to go without it while it was in the laundry. I'm tempted to buy another one just to avoid encountering that scenario again. I'm not sure what part of the turtle one shaves fur from... but keep it up!

The only downside is that it pills rather easily so it stopped looking new pretty quickly. But is does the job.

Light weight, soft, warm. Hiking in light rain, it isn't advertised as water resistant, but the outer surface gets wet, while the inner stays dry and warm. If it does get soaked, squeeze the water out, put it back on, and your body heat dries it out pretty fast.
