Take it from an outdoor person who suffers from skin cancer, These Sleeves Are The Perfect Answer. I have been wearing all long sleeve shirts to keep the sun off of my arms. I ran across these and thought I would try them. I keep them by the back door and slide them on as I go out. I can easily slide them off when I come back in.. They really do have a cooling effect on your arms, not sure how that works.

I will probably order one more pair to wear so I can always have a clean pair.

Stay out of the sun. Skin cancer is nothing to laugh at.

I am not fully convinced on these, but I still have only worn them once. I wore them on a mountain bike ride on a sunny 85-90 degree day.

First off, they do have a noticeable cooling effect when you have some breeze on them. It is almost like a minty clean feeling rather than having ice on you, but it does feel quite nice. I did notice it helped wick my sweat away quickly and they did not get drenched within the first hour. I can't say for certain, but after 1-1.5 hours as my body temp rose, they started to feel like they were trapping my body heat and weren't as efficient anymore. Still, they seemed to do a better job than the nike workout shirt I was wearing which was fully saturated after 2.5 hours and the sleeves were just a little damp feeling. I chose to give these a try as I know I get hot easily and figured these in combination with a short sleeve shirt would provide a little more airflow to my armpit and core. I am going to get one of the columbia omnifreeze long sleeve shirts and see if I can tell a difference with overall air flow.

My biggest gripe is that the sleeve kept falling down at the top. I have a fairly muscular build so that may contribute to this, but it was annoying having to adjust the sleeves every 20-30 minutes. It would be nice if they had included a thicker elastic band at the top with a grippy surface. Also, if you have very large arms, good luck getting these on. The length was about perfect for me and they were very snug everywhere except for my wrist.

Overall, I would say these are pretty good. I doubt that any kind of material that is designed to block the sun yet keep you cool will be able to do both perfectly, but it is much better than having to deal with really messy lotions and reapplying every hour or so. I do not regret my purchase at all, and will most likely pick up atleast one more pair of these depending on how things go with a long sleeved omnifreeze shirt.

***I have the large/xlarge size and after one wash and air drying, the dimensions on them are : Length: 18.25", wrist 4" across, upper arm is 5.25" across (laying flat on a surface). The material is quite stretchy, so it can accommodate a wide range of arms. Just for reference, my wrist is 7.5" around, upper arm is about 15" and I usually wear a 33-34 length sleeve.

I bought a pair of these sleeves to wear at a golf week in Mesquite, NV during the record heat wave passing through the area at the time. I had applied a heavy coating of sunscreen prior to arriving at the course knowing the sun would be intense and the temperature would climb steadily. After 6 holes the sun was oppressive and my skin felt on fire. I pulled on the sleeves for the first time and instantly noticed that the fire had stopped and my arms thanked me for the relief. I did feel cooler than without them.

My golf buddies being the skeptical lot they are needed to try them out before agreeing they were indeed cooler and kept the sun from penetrating to the skin tried them on and tested the sleeves in the sun. Some of those golfers left the course after the round and purchased the sleeves, the bandana, and the hat made of the same material.

Are they cooler than any other long sleeve shirt? Yes, but that depends on the material of the shirt and the cut of the shirt. If the shirt is made for sun shade and cut like one of the shirts used for fishing with the vented back and lined with mesh, then I would say that's a toss up. What the sleeves offer is an option or accessory to be worn with all of your golfing shirts. You can opt to not use sunscreen and allow your skin to breathe and sweat naturally. (a cooling bonus) When you are wearing the sleeves one can notice a cooling effect because the sleeves allow air flow and any sweating combined with movement causes one to feel a difference.

I pour water on mine depending on the temperature outside. You could achieve the same cooling effect with most any long sleeve shirt doing the same thing but the sleeves combined with a short sleeve shirt give absolute freedom of movement. The sleeves give you options that a long sleeve shirt doesn't. Yes, you can roll up your sleeves when you don't need the long sleeves on a regular shirt but then why not just wear your regular short sleeve golf shirt and use the sleeves if needed. The Columbia pull on sleeves are comfortable, stay in place, and once they are on your arms, they stay hassle free from falling, pinching, or bunching. It is like wearing a second protective skin.

My final thought on the sleeves is this, I recommend them to everyone who asks me about them and I will never not have them on when they are necessary. These sleeves and the bandana were life savers on the day the temperature climbed to 112 degrees when the round had ended. That is crazy hot weather to be playing golf and the only time I will ever attempt such a thing. Golf vacation or not don't do it. BUT if you do find yourself in physically demanding weather, wear the right clothing which I believe should include the sleeves and the bandana. The combination is a real winner.

Honest reviews on Columbia Men's Freezer Zero Arm Sleeve

I love these for my outdoor gardening job. It feels like someone put mild menthol substance on your arms and I never felt too hot in them, even during 95 degree weather. Get them wet and the evaporation keeps you even cooler. I am female and have a small frame and found that the small fits well. If you have a medium frame or muscular arms order medium or large. The only drawback with these are the huge Columbia logo. It feels tacky.
