A well known gear lab tested this jacket and then trashed it in a review. I didn't believe them and very pleased I did not. The Compounder is about 19 oz. compared to their best choice the Arcteryx Alpha SV which is 2 oz. less and $300 more! Later, I saw the Compounder was highly rated by Backpacker magazine.
The breathability is nearly as good as some fabrics that cost much more. Unfortunately, I am aware of that...
The XXL is true to size and a relaxed fit with long arms leaves plenty of room for winter layering. The Compounder has an easy-to-adjust hood; soft face lining; and internal mesh pockets handy for storing gloves.
While waterproof pocket zippers all run smoothly, the main zip requires wrestling.
The pit zips are very long...
The Compounder maybe a tad heavier than $600 jackets, but the result is that it offers multisport potential: It crosses over into skiing and mountaineering, yet it's not too heavy for backpacking.
A great product from Columbia. Never count them out!Only got this at Christmas. He wanted something that he could walk to work in without arriving sweaty. Seems to serve that purpose just fine.
