Love these pants, onto my second pair now. Many a happy day spent skiing, ice climbing and tramping around alaska in these, and now new zealand.
Great for ski touring because with the full zipper you can put them on or take them off without having to get out of your boots... same thing for wearing crampons. Also can unzip the sides to dump heat when going up hill.
Wouldn't mind a bit hardier material around the boot cuffs as they get torn up a bit with crampons, but all pants and most gaiters get torn up so no biggie.
These pants are quite stretchy which is nice for movement... and way quieter than most competitors which is better for hunting (but not noiseless though)

These pants are great and worth the price. They are very comfortable when you need to be agile and I have yet to get wet or overheat in them. The full length zippers which can be opened from both the top and bottom give me great versatility ventilation and access to the pockets in my hiking shorts. These pants are also lightweight and very packable.So why the 4 and not a 5. The main reason is that the pants (size large) won't drop below the back of my hiking boot. That leaves the back of my boots exposed. The result is rain falling into the back of my boots and wet feet especially in stormy weather when the wind is at my back. I tried using the boot tie downs but they only help protect leaks into the front of my boots, not the back. I have a 32" inseam so I don't think this is a sizing issue. I do think it's an area where OR can seek to improve the product.
I would like to finish on a positive note, these are great rain pants and 99.9% of the time, you will be very happy with them.
