I have both these and the Icebreaker Men's Hike Mid Crew Sock. Both are fine socks. Both are well made, provide great cushioning, look great, and have a comfortable fit. Both can be used in a business casual environment and perhaps even a business environment without "strict" dress requirements. They are not a 'stretch' fit as are some other socks. They pull on comfortably and can go over a sock liner fairly easily. The Hike Trek sock has a higher Merino wool content than the Mid Crew sock. I judge the Mid Crew a warm sock that works for me with insulated shoes to about 30 degrees F. The Trek sock works with the same insulated shoes down at least to 20 degrees F. Haven't had occasion yet to try them at a lower temperature.Neither is as warm as the old Patagonia Ultra Heavy Weight Expedition socks that are no longer available. The Trek sock seems close to the warmth of the Patagonia Expedition Weight Merino Hiking Mid Socks. I haven't compared them side by side closely.
Which to choose? It's really a matter of the desired amount of warmth. I use them both depending upon the outside temperature. If you're also going to be inside a lot, realize that the Trek socks may make your feet warmer (hotter?) than the Mid Crew socks.
